Best for some joie de vivre - Molitg-les-Bains, French Pyrenees

This thermal spa at the Molitg-les-Bains Grand Hotel provides a huge list of treatments ranging from hydrotherapy and sophrology to a Kaolin mud bath. The building is set on the side of a wooded gorge, so you really feel like you’re part of nature.

Best for mountain air - Walliser Alpentherme & Spa, Leukerbad, Switzerland

Best for a city spa break - Szechenyi Baths, Budapest, Hungary

With more than 100 thermal springs, it’s easy to see why Budapest is known as the spa capital of Europe. The stunning Szechenyi Baths are the largest in the city and one of Budapest’s most visited attractions. Alongside 15 indoor baths and three grand outdoor pools filled with medicinal hot spring waters, there are also 10 saunas and steam cabins, massage therapies and treatments. There are yellow and white neo-baroque buildings aplenty filled with vaulted ceilings, mosaics, statues and painted windows.
